Tin Can Cooking

This remains one of the most loved activities that we do and we repeated it again this January. For some Cubs, it was a return to cooking pancakes in a way that they remembered with enthusiam; for others, it was their first attempt. We think the record was 10 on the evening!

Remembrance Sunday 2017

We were pleased to join the Sunday service again this year at St Andrew's in order to mark such a poignant day in our calendar.

District Quiz Winners 2017!

Whilst its always nice to win things, to retain the trophy we'd won in 2016 was particularly satisfying. So, well done to Tom, Harry, William L., Ed, William D and Euan.

Visit to St Andrew's Church on 10th October 2017

We have been to the Church for services, but on Tuesday we went along as part of our meeting to find out about this grade 2 listed building in the village. Made out of Wilmcote Stone, Reverend David Benskin told the Cubs a little about its history (built 1841), the importance of parts of the church and the significance of what he wears. He was also able to help one Cub by explaining that St Andrew being a follower of Jesus was unrelated to any Instagram account!

 

 

RNLI Night.

Personal safety was a theme throughout September and as part of that, two RNLI volunteers came to a meeting to talk about safety on the beach, in the sea and near water in general. That aspect is important, because there are lots of rivers and canals in our area and we didn't want the Cubs to be thinking that their safety only needed thinking about when on holiday.
The Cubs learnt about the flags and signs, heard stories about some of the rescues and had it stressed to them that if they find themselves in trouble, its better to float than get tired trying to swim against the flow.

September's Activity Day at Blackwell Adventure

The Cubs had a great weekend camp at Blackwell Adventure in May, but they weren't able to do all the activities that they wanted to. So, last month, we spent the day at the centre and the Cubs abseiled, zip wired, crate-stacked and had a tree tops adventure. Plus, they had a go at the assault course too. This was all part of the Adventure Challenge Award for those that needed to complete those modules as well as a day of general fun!

Supporting the Younger Beaver Scouts

This year in particular, we have encouraged our older Cub Scouts to help the younger ones in our Beaver section. It's been lovely to see them helping with activities and showing others how to do things. Often it has been part of the Team Leader Challenge Award.
