Swimming Up 29th March 2012

Four Beavers joined the Cubs tonight in a 'swimming up' ceremony, and were welcomed by Akela, William and Freddie. The Pack will soon be 20 strong and we are going to need a new Pack photo.

Pack Meeting 27th March 2012

The pack killed two birds with one stone this week, by collecting up all the old twigs and grass from the scout hut area and making a 'bug hotel' at the back of the scout hut. This was followed by the first outdoor games of the year, with a game of foot cricket.

Cubs Trip to London 17th March 2012

On Saturday 17th March 2012, Wilmcote joined Tanworth Cubs for a joint visit to London. After navigating their way to Piccadilly Circus via Warwick Parkway and Marylebone Station, the group walked to Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, stopping off at the Swiss hospitality tent for free chocolates, baseball caps and wristbands, before posing for a photo at the Olympic clock.
Akela educated everyone (including the adults) on the Worlds smallest police station and the nose built into Admiralty Arch.
This was followed by a march down the Mall to see Buckingham Palace, then a walk through St James's Park and a stop for lunch.
After lunch, the Cubs visited Horseguards Parade where they were presented with recent badges by the Sergeant Major, complete with his stick.
David Cameron was not at home as we passed Downing Street, then a quick glimpse of Big Ben as we headed on the underground for Monument.
311 steps later, the Cubs were enjoying the view at the top of Monument, then a walk along the Thames past HMS Belfast, over Tower Bridge, through St Katherine's Dock and past the Tower of London.
All the walking built up an appetite for a Happy Meal at McDonalds, before returning home for 8pm.

Regional Quiz 13th March 2012

A team of four of our Cubs took part in the annual District Quiz which this year was held at the Group headquarters of 1st Tanworth-in-Arden. Twelve teams battled it out over several rounds, answering questions on, amongst other things, sport, scouting, Disney film theme tunes, famous buildings and bugs. Our team did really well, finishing in 3rd place and only just missing out on enough points to win. Well done William, Josh, Ellis and Cole.

CCFC v BCFC 10th March 2012

On 10th March 2012, the cubs went to see Coventry City play Birmingham City at the Ricoh Arena. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but Coventry seem to have secured their next generation of supporters.

Online Safety

Welcome to the new blog for 1st Wilmcote Cub Scouts. This week the cubs are finishing off their Personal Safety badge by creating a list of rules to stay safe online.

Safekids.com offer the following advice:

1. I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parents’ permission.*

2. I will tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.

3. I will never agree to get together with someone I “meet” online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring a parent along.

4. I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents.*

5. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away.

6. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online and using a mobile phone. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.

7. I will not give out my passwords to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.

8. I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or mobile device or jeopardize my family’s privacy*

9. I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.

10. I will help my parents understand how to have fun and learn things online and teach them things about the Internet, computers and other technology.
