Another Chief Scout Silver Award.

Well done Luke. You are the latest to achieve the Award and you can be very proud of your efforts. As the certificate says, this is the top award for Cub Scouts and requires completion of all 7 Challenge Awards and more than 6 Activity badges (Luke has 20!).

Backwoods Cooking

Backwoods cooking is the term used when we cook outdoors (e.g. in the back woods) and not - as some of the Cubs think - backwards cooking! It remains the most requested activity that we do and the Cubs love it. Across May & June we worked on this badge, cooking a variety of things in different ways.

Gardener badge

This is a new badge for 2018 and the Cubs worked on all the modules between April to July. The dry weather didn't help the growing at times, but we gave it a go! After all, not all planting is successful, is it?

Get In Camp 2018.

What a weekend this was in May. Its impossible to list everything the Cubs did across the six zones available to them on the Saturday and Sunday. Suffice to say that it created memories for life!

Hedgehog Friendly Town & Rubbish Friends

It was an honour to host three guests for our last meeting in April. Year 7 students Kyra and Sophie spoke passionately about their work saving hedgehogs (did you see them on the One Show?) and Becky involved the Cubs in the work of Rubbish Friends and the impact of litter on all wildlife. Thank you - we look forward to helping you in the future.

Happy New (Chinese) Year

2018 is the "Year of the Dog" and as part of the World Challenge Award work, the Cubs got ready for Chinese New Year on 16th February. They stir fried their selection of food, made dragon masks and made lucky red envelopes to give as a gift with (chocolate) money in.

Two More Chief Scout Silver Award's Presented!

It's always great when our young people work hard to get their badges and Awards. Not all of them manage to get all seven Awards, but we are delighted that Chloe and Maria have done so by completing all seven of the Challenge Awards. We took the opportunity to share their excellent achievement with the congregation at the Plough Sunday service and Reverend David presented both the badges and certificates. Congratulations Chloe and Maria!

Plough Sunday 2018 in Wilmcote

We feel like we are getting in to this service at St Andrew's more each year. Plough Sunday is held on the day of the family service in January and it follows the tradion from many years ago when the (shared) plough from the village was taken to church and blessed ahead of the ploughing starting in the new year.
We meet at Mary Arden's Farm and followed behind the staff and the piper. The weather this year was wet and very cold. Its a good job the Church is warm!

Disability Awareness Activity badge

Although this Activity badge has been around for a while, its not one we'd tackled before. The Leaders were delighted how positively our Cubs tackeled each part of the Disability Awareness badge. We used a mobility scooter to discuss wheelchair access, talked about equipment for the deaf and hard of hearing, made sandwiches using only one hand, the Cubs wrote their names in braille using food stuffs and celebrated the achievements of Jonnie Peacock (both in athletics and Strictly Come Dancing!)

Tin Can Cooking

This remains one of the most loved activities that we do and we repeated it again this January. For some Cubs, it was a return to cooking pancakes in a way that they remembered with enthusiam; for others, it was their first attempt. We think the record was 10 on the evening!
